My first time observing Pamela doing a storytime. It was very full in that big meeting room with kids ranging from newborns to maybe 2nd graders (it was during public school spring break). The theme was elephants. Here’s a breakdown of what she did:
Rhyme: “I’ve got 10 fingers that belong to me…”
Song: “The More We Get Together” with ASL signing
Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young (a BIG book)
Elmer by David McKee
Song: “Hammer Song”
Activity: Patting out the syllables in childrens’ names
My Cat, the Silliest Cat in the World by Gilles Bachelet
Felt board story: “The Elephant Wrestling Match”
Peanut by Linas Alsenas

Song: “If You’re Happy and You Know It” (with the book)
The End!
Observations: It got very loud in the room, but Pamela didn’t really try to quiet everyone down because that probably would’ve been more effort than it’s worth. Instead, she used a loud voice and kept things interesting, giving the kids a chance to get the wiggles out with the hammer song. I definitely like the theme idea. Pamela had a lot of other books about elephants out for browsing, too. I thought the big book was great, since the room is so big, but it seemed a little difficult to hold and turn the pages. All in all, it was a great storytime to observe. It was nice to see that some parents and kids knew Pamela, too.
Speaking of elephants, have you seen this video?
